Chapter 2

I woke up in my bed with the curtains hiding the sun which I rejoiced at. Opening my eyes a bit killed me, the sky light was open and the light it let in was sharp and painful. I rolled over and buried my head in my pillows. Slowly I became aware that I was bleeding on the bed and I wasn’t covered. I must have just got in and dropped off on the bed.

For the moment I didn’t care that I was staining the sheets and that I’d have to get them burned. I didn’t want to move a muscle but as a pain constricted the muscles in my abdomen I slowly pushed myself up. All of my muscles burned from having to get crammed back into a human body but in a way I was used to it. Besides in roughly two weeks I’d have to do it again, it was routine.

I let my wild hair fall over my face to block out some of the sun, picking up the remote that went to almost everything that used technology; I pressed the button for the sky light screen. As it closed I sighed lifting my head up a bit. I moved toward the shower hoping to not let the blood pooling around my inner thighs drop onto the carpet. I let the water steam as I got a towel and once I got in it was like heaven.

I was in the shower for a good forty minutes before I even considered getting out; the only reason for it was the water was getting cold. I pulled on some low-cut cotton panties that I had sat out yesterday morning, again another ritual. I sighed as I finally wrapped the towel around me; the warm air in the bath had soaked in which only heated up my skin.

That was the only thing about the quarter moon and being Were that I loathed, being cold for a few days after. I mean having skin for a week or so is great and keeps you warm but once you grow thick fur and then shed it in a night…you kind of get cold after being super warm.

I turned to close the door and paused, someone was in my room. Titling my head to the side I saw Zeke sitting suggestively on my bed. “You want what?”

Zeke looked as if I’d slapped him; he needed a good slap upside his head. “I just wanted to come greet my Lady as she woke up. Darling, I know your routine after the Were Moon.”

I sighed as I began to towel dry my hair letting the rest of my body stay bare. “You’ve greeted me, now please leave.”

Riffling through my clothes I chose some comfy leather pants and a high cut corset with a velvet lined jacket and shoes. The whole outfit was black and sexy, just the way I was feeling.

I quickly pulled on a strapless cotton bra that matched my panties and started to pull on the pants when I felt hands gliding over my hips. Zeke’s fingers seemed to pinpoint the sore muscles and kneed the pain out which made me lean against him but when one hand started to get curious was when I became alert. I didn’t move from my position as his fingers flirted with the top of the dark blue panties letting him think I was willing at this time.

Slowly he inched his fingers down under the fabric and then I turned making him pause. I grabbed his fingers and pulled them out and smiled, “You thought I was willing weren’t you? Sweetheart, I can promise you this, I’ll never want you the way you seem to want me. Got it?”

I then raised my right leg up and thrust upwards with it. Zeke crumpled to the floor quickly yelping and screaming. I grabbed my clothing and went out in the hall as I was buttoning the pants together. The door swayed open and I kept it there, why not make him feel embarrassed?

I pulled on the corset making sure that it was properly placed when Layla and her boy toy walked out to see what the commotion was about. She gave me a questioning look and I shook my head. I wanted to be alone. I finished getting dressed on the bench that was closest to me in the hall. Cramming the ends of my pants into the boots and zipping them up I walked out of the house.

The car fired up silently and I looped around the grand fountain in the courtyard of the Mansion. I drove at my own pace down the curvy road that met the out reaches of town. I slowed once I hit the check point down to 35 mph and coasted to the coffee house in the center of town.

It was warm and cozy in Coffee Café. The tables and chairs were modern but even looking at them you could tell that you could sit for hours with enjoyment. As I walked up to the stainless steel counter I ordered my regular and paid. I took a seat in one of the corner tables near the sun and dived into my thoughts.

At first I scolded myself for going into town last night and then following after Peter, I could have got caught. It was such a newbie move that I mentally slapped myself and cursed a bit. After a few more minutes fuming I turned silent inside and out as I just meditated.

Slowly I became aware of another presence near me. I was shocked to find Peter sipping his coffee across from me and quietly looking out the window. I couldn’t find the words to say hello so I watched him. For some reason he looked far more exotic with my wolf eyes than yesterday afternoon.

Peter noticed me then and smiled, his eyes turning tender but slightly excited. “Do you wear colored contact?”

It was so out of the blue that I laughed. I shook my head, “Why?”

“Well most of the time you don’t have electric blue eyes. Just wondering, you don’t have to tell me.”

Taking a sip of my coffee I nodded, “Sure, sometimes.”

It was the perfect excuse; after being part wolf your eyes stay the same color for the same amount of time that your body readjusts to human living. We sat in silence after that enjoying each others company. For a bit I watched him, studying his features and torso which satisfied the part of me that still wanted more from last night. He just turned to look out the window lost within his own thoughts.

“Can I ask you a question?” I asked.

Peter turned to look at me, “Shoot.”

“Why are you sitting here as if we’ve been friends for out whole life?”

He laughed, “I can understand that after yesterday right?”

I just nodded and waited.

“I don’t mind talking to girls that I like, I’m kind of outgoing in that way. I also don’t mind talking to a rather popular girl that has the perfect world, if I was shy I wouldn’t be able to talk to my sister,” Peter laughed a bit at this before continuing, “Yesterday though Mike was around and I kind of felt a little uncomfortable with Layla there. I enjoy talking to people on my own terms, you know?”

I laughed a bit, “I understand that completely. How’d you know I’d be here though?”

“Something strange happened to me last night that kind of left an impression. When I woke this morning it just kind of felt right coming here and here you are.”

“Powerful impression.”

Dang, I thought, That’s just great, he’s connected with my rhythms now.

Peter nodded and laughed. “So what are you doing in town, special occasion?”

“No, I just needed to buy a few things and go to the library for some books.”

“I was just heading that way as well to get some books over vampires and were-wolves. You know were-wolves don’t seem to be that popular I mean even with Wolf Mansion and everything.”

I choked on the drink of coffee I just took and sputtered, “S-strange....”

“What are you doing your report over?”

“Since its around Halloween I thought I’d do it over the moon, rituals and on All Hallows Eve.”

“A woman after my own heart.” Peter laughed and I smiled.

He became serious after that which threw me off a bit, “Can I ask you something personal?”

I cocked my head to the side, “This isn’t about a girl is it?”

“Yeah but its about you....”

I sat up straight wondering what he could possibly ask or know. I hesitated, “Um, sure, go ahead.”

“I’ve heard around school that this is your third in the past 5 years. I was wondering why that once. Better to ask the source, right?”

I leaned back becoming quiet, “You really want to know?”

Peter nodded, “That is if you wish to talk about it.”

I smiled up at him knowing the action didn’t reach my eyes. “You’re the first to ask that at least to my face that is. I’ll try to explain it as best as I can because most of the time my memories are a little splintered.” I silently added, “Because I’m a were-wolf.”

Peter just sat there waiting. “The past year or so was a bad one for me. I’m really pressured by my parents on a lot of things so I usually went to school in a rather dark and violent mood,” I looked up at him and smiled, “Wouldn’t peg me for a violent type, huh?”

He smiled, “I see it every now and then.”

“Well I all ready had two strikes on my record at the school and the principal had it out for me like no other. That day was bad to start off with but when I couldn’t find Layla to rant to her I started looking. I missed my first class and it was quickly turning into second hour when I finally found her.

“It’s no secret that Layla had a weakness for guys, always have. That time though she had caught a rather rough one, a senior with a rep as tall as I am. Of course that appealed to Layla at the time and she started flirting. The guy knew of her as much as she knew of him so they found an empty alley at the school. Kind of like the ones we have, you know?

“The alley wasn’t empty, two buddies of this senior’s had been waiting. They all ganged up on her and in no time had Layla on the ground ripping her clothing off.”

I could tell Peter wasn’t enjoying the tale one bit as he clenched his fingers against the table. My own stomach was twisting remembering it. I had to continue though, the story wasn’t over. “I was just in time though with one goof guarding the alley entrance, another holding Layla’s arms over her head and the third about to…well do as he wished with her.

“I had grown up around larger cousins and brothers knowing how to defend myself and had taken karate lessons. Quietly I snuck up on the one guy and knocked him out cold. When I stepped into the light the guy holding her saw me and alerted the senior.

“I was angry at this point because I noticed it was Layla lying on the ground. She was crying and screaming for help which only made my blood boil hotter. I could tell these guys were wanting a little more than the child Layla had been at the time. I looked almost like I am now and was wearing something of the same outfit,” I waved my hand taking in the corset, leather pants, boots, and jacket.

“While the senior held Layla down the other came after me. I easily dodged him and once he started throwing punches it became fun. The senior had to punch Layla out and come after me. They got cocky fast which in the end became their downfall.

“I took my bad mood out on them and left them on the ground suffering. I redressed Layla carefully making sure not to hit anything because they messed her up rather well. Picking her up carefully I went to the Nurse’s Office and told an intern to get the principal. None of the woman wanted anything to do with Layla after I told them what happened.

“I cleaned Layla up while the principal was coming. Once he got there he turned rather shy and red as he had walked in on Layla naked and unconscious. I told him he was a coward. ‘Besides,’ I said, ‘All women look the same, some just have more meat on their bones.’

“He stuttered for awhile before he ordered me to finish helping Layla and come out of the room. So I did with a few choice curses in French and Latin so no one listening could understand. I have a small problem with authority, one reason why I rebel against my parents when I can.

“I told the principal we’d need an ambulance, he thought I meant for Layla. Laughing I told him for the three that did this. The guy was angry and went ghost white when I named the three cleanest guys at the school and they’d also been the all star trinity on the football and basketball teams.

“After that I was kicked out for almost killing two students and harming another. I guess I’m the opposite of a straight shooter.”

Peter was silent for a moment processing the whole story. “That makes me look at both of you different. I do have to admit that that is totally different from most of the rumors.”

“Most are.”

“I’m glad that you transferred in though, most girls at Branton High are all goody-goodies. I like having someone like you here, you get rough and dirty and probably still look good.”

“Wouldn’t you like to know,” I smirked.

I then checked my watch and moved to stand. Peter stood with me, what a gentleman. “I better hurry and get to the library and the store, my ‘rents will probably want to scold me about this morning.”

Peter looked at me with a smirk, one I found I liked. “What did you do?”

“I might have kneed Zeke when I found him in my room after I got out of the shower.”

Peter winced a bit at that, “Ouch!”

“Do you want a ride?”

“What, to the library? Sure,” said Peter as I dumped my cup into the trash.

I cocked my head toward the door and held it open for him, “It’s the yellow car.”

When I pointed it out Peter’s jaw almost hit pavement, “That’s your car?”

“Yeah, Dad got it for me for my sixteen birthday. Do you like?”

Peter gave me the look of ‘Are you insane?’ I laughed and pressed the automatic unlock button. We jumped in and as the car yawned into life Peter melted. “At least I’m not the only one.”

“I’m so jealous, green with envy.”

Jokingly I picked, “It gets me from A to B, you know?”

Peter only shook his head and smirked. “So you know French and Latin?”

“Yeah, I was speaking Latin right after I learned English, its almost my first tongue. French was a bit of an after thought but those are my parents’ native languages though, so I had to learn them. I quite enjoy the history and lilt of the languages.”

I knew it was coming and there it went, “Can you tell me something in which ever one you wish just tell me what language it is after you say it, okay?”

I nodded and thought for a moment as I paused at a red light. “Okay. Here goes…. I'm a erant - lupus ut vota habeo vos ut a materia. It‘s Latin.”

Peter smiled, “I like it. What’s it mean though?”

I only grinned wryly, “I’ll tell you that when you figure me out.”

“Okay, something else. Please.”

I nodded and mulled over the language in my head since I hadn’t used it in awhile. “I'll succurro vos in vestri opinio super erant - lupus.”

“Will you tell me what that means?”

“The proper saying was, ‘I'll help you on your report about were-wolf.’”

Peter looked at me and grinned, “Really? I’d love that. Can you come over tomorrow afternoon that is if you aren’t grounded or something because of this morning?”

“Sure. I haven’t rebelled against my parents lately so why not?”

I then pulled into the library parking lot and smiled. We chatted around simple things like school and how we were going to write these reports. I helped him pick out some books that were close to the truth on were-wolves.

“You know none of these books really know what a were-wolf is.”

“I’m guessing you do?” Peter asked.

“Yeah, I mean after all I love Wolf Mansion and live there.”

Peter almost dropped his books when I said that as we walked up to check the loads of bound paper out. “You got to be kidding?”

I shook my head, “You can’t tell anyone that I told you or that I live there. Promise me!”

Peter looked at me solemnly and nodded, “I promise.”

After that we had to depart and as I drove home the wolf in me was wagging her tail and feeling lightheaded. It didn’t help because it only added to my feelings, after a bit I didn’t know which were mine and which were hers. I knew both were really mine but I was trying to keep level headed in this.

When I got home, my parents and the rest of the Council were waiting. Zeke’s mother, Lillie was fuming and muttering under her breath. “Hello,” I sweetly said.

My dad roughly grabbed my arm and the only thing holding me back from tearing him limb from limb was the thought of tomorrow. I let the wolf free but only in my eyes. Everyone saw that wild insanity that came with having a wolf soul intertwined with a human husk. I even went as far as growing dark and deadly, my father backed up then.

Council member Harriet softly touched my arm, her throat bare, a act of not being threatening. That pacified my temper for now because Harriet was my favorite grandmother, however she didn’t look like it. “Love, will you come with us?”

I let Harriet loop my arm with hers and as she rambled on like a school girl I calmed myself. I didn’t need to act like this if I was to get by with a light punishment. The only bad thing about the whole walk down the hall was that I knew what was waiting for me. Blood and punishment.
